Peonies and buzzing bees at a Taihu rock. Ink and light colors on paper, mounted as a hanging scroll. Titled "Fu gui chang chun" (Wealth, Honor and Everlasting Spring), cyclic dating to gengyin [1890], for Mr. Yi Fu's appraisal. Signature: "Geshan lao ren Ju Lian", an artist's seal: "Gu Quan" and another seal (unread).

Ju Lian, a native of Panyu (now Guangzhou), was a Chinese painter in Qing Dynasty. His courtesy name was 'Ancient Spring' (Gu Quan), and self-given pseudonym 'Old Man of the Divided Mountain' (Ge Shan Lao Ren). Together with his older brother (or cousin) Ju Chao, he belongs to the important painters of the Lingnan School.
